Bridgewater State University (BSU) and Stonehill College have arranged for the preferred admission of qualified Stonehill students to the Master of Science in Athletic Training Program. The program is designed for individuals who may have an undergraduate degree in another field, but would now like to become a National Athletic Trainer's Association board  certified athletic trainer.

Benefits

  • Waiver of the BSU graduate program admission application fee
  • Waiver of the GRE admission requirement
  • May delay the beginning of the graduate program for up to two years if accepted in the senior year
  • Ability to waive up to two graduate courses for undergraduate Stonehill courses worth six credits toward the MSAT degree
    • Three graduate credits waived for ATTR 543 Pharmacology when NEU 400 Psychopharmacology is successfully completed with a grade of B or better at Stonehill
    • Up to six graduate credits waived for ATTR 511 Research Methods or PHED 511 Research Methods in Physical Education when PSY 496 Independent Reach and PSY 497 Senior Thesis are successfully completed with a grade of B or better at Stonehill
  • All applicants who earn a minimum overall G.P.A. of 3.50 as well as an average G.P.A. of 3.50 in the prerequisite courses, will be considered for competitive scholarships but this Agreement does not guarantee an award

Qualifications

  • Anticipated successful completion of Bachelor’s degree from Stonehill in May of the senior year
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 at Stonehill
  • Completed or in the process of completing at the time of application the following prerequisite courses:

    Stonehill Courses

    1. BIO 203 Human Anatomy and Physiology I (4 Credits)
    2. BIO 204 Human Anatomy and Physiology II (4 Credits)
    3. BIO 118 Nutrition and Wellness or BIO 220 Community Nutrition (3 Credits)
    4. PSY 101 General Psychology (3 Credits)
    5. CHEM 113 General Chemistry I (4 credits)
    6. PSY 261 Statistics or similar (3 credits)
    7. PHY 121 Physics 1 (4 credits)
    8. PHY 122 Physics II (4 credits)
    There are other courses that can serve as prerequisites but are not offered at Stonehill. Students should refer to the current BSU catalog for the full list of prerequisite courses:  
    1. Provisional admission can be granted to a student currently enrolled in an Emergency Medical Technician Training, Introduction to Athletic Training, or Athletic Taping and Bracing course(s). Additionally, a basic EMT course will be provided at Bridgewater State University, at cost, during the summer prior to the beginning of the fall academic/clinical semester. Applicants may be granted provisional admission, contingent upon enrollment and successful completion of an EMT course concurrent with the summer course load
  • Completed all prerequisite courses prior to enrolling in the MSAT program
  • Earned a grade of “B” or higher in each of the prerequisite courses
  • Submission of all MSAT admission application materials by the published BSU deadline for entry into the term beginning the next fall; all required documentation and application materials can be found on the BSU Athletic Training Program website
  • A satisfactory pre-admission interview conducted by BSU at the BSU campus
