Required Tasks

The Pre-Orientation Survey is an important part of the first-year enrollment process. Your responses help us get to know your interests and preferences and give us insight into the Class of 2029.

Although you’ll be registering for your own fall courses, the information you share in this survey helps the college prepare to support your transition to Stonehill. Students will receive extensive guidance throughout the course registration process, including step-by-step registration guides, virtual and in-person meetings, and multiple opportunities to ask questions along the way.

Every new Stonehill student must complete the College Writing Readiness Assessment. The first-year writing (FYW) requirement must be completed in the first year as part of our Skyhawk Core Curriculum. To help you choose the right course instructor and topic, you must complete a short survey about your reading and writing habits and provide a brief (at least 300 words) writing sample.

You are required to take the Business Mathematics Readiness Assessment if you are intending to major in accounting, business analytics, finance, international business, management, management information systems, marketing, sport management, or talent and human resources management. Additionally, if you are entering as “undeclared business,” you must take the Business Mathematics Readiness Assessment. Your assessment score will help us determine your readiness and recommend the appropriate mathematics course as you register for fall classes.

Students planning to major in economics or healthcare management are exempt from the Business Mathematics Readiness Assessment but are encouraged to consider taking it if they are exploring or undecided about their specific area of business focus.

You are required to take the Calculus Readiness Assessment if you are intending to major in actuarial mathematics, astronomy, computer science, data science, earth & planetary sciences, economics, engineering, mathematics, photonics or physics. Your assessment score will help us determine your readiness and recommend the appropriate mathematics course as you register for fall classes.

If you are majoring in one of the other sciences, you are NOT required to take the Calculus Readiness Assessment because our recommendation is for you to take Pre-Calculus prior to taking Calculus. However, you may take the Calculus Readiness Assessment if you have a strong background in Calculus and would like to be able to bypass Pre-Calculus and go directly into Calculus.

In early July, you will receive an email from Stonehill with details about course registration. As part of the process, you'll complete a series of educational modules in Canvas, Stonehill’s learning management system. These modules will introduce you to the Skyhawk Core Curriculum, your major, tools for tracking degree requirements, and more. Once you've completed the modules, you’ll gain access to step-by-step registration guides and advising opportunities to help you prepare for course registration later in the month.

In the meantime, please remember to send Stonehill your final high school transcript, along with any official Dual Enrollment transcripts and AP/IB exam scores, if applicable.
