Housing Selection FAQ
Fall housing is always at capacity and the Office of Residence Life must use all beds in order to meet fall housing demands.
If your planned roommate withdraws from fall housing in order to study abroad or do a domestic internship, Residence Life will assign a new resident to the open bed(s) in your room.
Some suggestions we can offer:
- try to find a fall roommate who is planning to go abroad in the spring
- try to find a fall roommate who is open to moving rooms in the spring semester
- contact Residence Life in early December to ask about moving to a new room in the spring with your desired roommate: typically, students going abroad in the spring leave us with open rooms to fill for the spring semester
If your fall roommate withdraws from housing or changes rooms for the spring, your friend returning to campus can request the space left vacant.
Check out our Room Availability page to see the room and suite options for your class year!
The Room Availability section of our website will be updated with suite-specific information for all areas of campus that can be blocked (Bogan Hall, Colonial & Commonwealth Courts, and the O'Hara and Pilgrim Heights Village Houses).
Blocking is the process of selecting an entire suite of rooms with a group of friends. For example, 8 rising sophomores can group together and "block" a Village House.
Blocking is allowed in Bogan Hall (rising seniors & juniors), the Courts (rising seniors & juniors), and the Village Houses (rising sophomores). To block, you must request a group of friends as roommates in MyHousing.
For example, if seeking an 8-person Bogan Hall suite, you should request 7 other students as roommates. They must accept your request, and must request you in return. You should then accept 7 roommate requests.
Fully-matched roommate groups will be entered into the appropriate blocking lottery based on class year. When selecting housing, the person selecting the suite will be able to place roommate pairs into individual bedrooms during the assigned lottery period--so be sure they know who wants which room!
Only students who have a roommate match are eligible to go through housing lottery. If you are still looking for a roommate, make sure to check out our "Find a Roommate" night (date TBD) or use our Advanced Roommate Search in MyHousing.
Students without a roommate will be placed into housing over the summer by the Office of Residence Life and assignments will be available by August 1st. Students who will be placed can request specific buildings / areas by emailing reslife@stonehill.edu. We will do our best to honor requests when possible, but due to space availability, Residence Life cannot guarantee specific requests will be met.
Housing Lottery generally goes in class year order starting with rising seniors and ending with rising sophomores. Within class years the order is randomized.
Your group will be directed to reorganize into roommate pairs or trios to be entered into the general lottery to pick bedrooms.
Singles within Bogan Hall are available via the blocking lottery process. All other singles on campus are reserved for accommodations.
You will participate in the selection that corresponds to the "older" person in the roommate pair (e.g., a rising senior / rising junior pair would participate in senior general lottery). You will be categorized as a mixed roommate pair and will be able to choose after non-mixed roommate pairs in that housing selection (e.g., after senior / senior roommate pairs).
