Finding Aids
Scope and Content Note
The Stonehill College Archives are arranged according to the governance structure of the college. Material dates from 1905, when Frederick Lothrop Ames built his estate on the property Stonehill now occupies. Materials in the Archives are classified as confidential, restricted, official and public records. Confidential and restricted records are closed to students and the public for a period of 50 years.
Official College records are closed to students and the public for a period of 15 years from the date of creation unless otherwise specified. Public records are open for research upon receipt by the Archives. For more information about these classification, please consult the Director of Archives and Historical Collections. For the purpose of this finding aid, notes have been added to those records series that the Archives' staff has identified as having restricted records which will not be available for research. The Archives reserves the right to restrict records, even if not specifically noted in this index.
The College Archives finding aid provides an overview of the College Archives collection. Series numbers are assigned to each division or department. Sub-series numbers are created for distinct groups of records. You may search through the College Archives finding aid to get a general sense of what series or sub-series of records are of interest to you.
The College Archives subject index allows researchers to search for names, events, groups, and other subject level information that is not clearly identifiable when using the College Archives finding aid.
The Summit Finding Aid is an index of articles in Stonehill's school newspaper (The Summit) from 1949-1982. The newspaper is not indexed between 1983-present.
