As the fall 2024 semester ended, administrators and faculty celebrated members of Stonehill College’s academic community during a ceremony held in Donahue Hall on Monday, December 2. Professor Janet Brown-Sederberg of the Computer Science Department and Professor Denis Malin of the Management Department both received the Award for Excellence in Teaching by Adjunct Faculty. This honor is given to part-time faculty to acknowledge the expertise they bring to the classroom and the positive impact they have on students’ lives.

Educating With Unwavering Dedication

In a citation conferring Brown-Sederberg’s award, President John Denning, C.S.C., and Vice President for Academic Affairs Peter Ubertaccio referred to her as “a cornerstone of Stonehill's Computer Science program.” 

“With empathy, sincerity, and unwavering dedication, Professor Brown-Sederberg creates a supportive environment that encourages students to persist through demanding material,” they wrote. “Her ability to balance nurturing support with high expectations ensures that students build both confidence and competence.

Taking A Thoughtful Approach

In a citation bestowing Malin’s honor, President Denning and Vice President Ubertaccio noted that his contributions to the Stonehill community are extensive.

“Whether serving on taskforces, offering feedback on academic programs, or supporting colleagues, his generosity and dedication are evident,” they wrote. “His thoughtful approach and collaborative spirit have strengthened both the Meehan School of Business and the College as a whole.”
