Stonehill College Appoints New Dean of the Meehan School
John Duggan, J.D., will oversee business education at the institution.
Stonehill College announces the appointment of John Duggan, J.D., as the new dean of the Leo J. Meehan School of Business. He will continue stewarding programs in accounting, economics, finance, healthcare management, international business, management, marketing, and sport management along with new majors in business analytics and talent and human resource management.
“John is a dynamic, collaborative and innovative educator,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs Peter Ubertaccio. “I look forward to working with him as he enhances existing offerings and seizes new opportunities to help Stonehill business students thrive in the ever-changing global marketplace.”
Duggan was first hired by the College in 2014. He has served the institution in various roles, including teaching fellow of business, assistant professor and associate professor of business law, chair of the Department of Business Administration, and vice president of the Faculty Senate. He worked collaboratively on the College’s path to reaccreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International in 2017 and 2022. This distinction ranks the College among an elite crop of institutions making up less than five percent of the world’s business schools. It was a multiyear process of internal focus and peer-reviewed evaluation. In addition, he recently reconstituted the Business Advisory Board and hosted a retreat for them at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. He holds a B.A. in political science and philosophy from Assumption College and a J.D. from Suffolk University School of Law.
Duggan’s background in the legal field includes advising clients on business formation and estate planning as well as pro-bono legal services for non-profit organizations. He currently holds memberships with the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Real Estate Bar Association for Massachusetts, the North Atlantic Regional Business Law Association and the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. His scholarship has appeared in Business Law Review.
“I offer my sincere thanks to President Denning, Dr. Ubertaccio and the search committee for choosing me to serve in this capacity,” Duggan said. “Stonehill College is a special community filled with dedicated world-class faculty and passionate students. I am excited to continue to build on the successes of the past and meet the future needs of students, faculty, and industries as we all work to create a more just and compassionate world.”
