Celebrating the Enduring Impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
President John Denning, C.S.C., honors the civil rights leader by encouraging community members to serve others.
January 17, 2025
Dear Members of the Stonehill Community,
On Monday, January 20, the College will join people across the nation in celebrating the enduring impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As a minister, educator, leader and role model, Dr. King preached the value of service, as well as the importance of advocacy for justice. He once shared, “The time is always right to do what is right.”
As you consider actions that you might take to help create a more just and compassionate world, I encourage you to explore service programs offered on campus. In honor of MLK Day, which has been designated a National Day of Service, Campus Ministry and the Office of Intercultural Affairs invite all students, faculty and staff to join them on Monday, January 20 at 3 p.m. in the Martin Institute Auditorium. They will host a prayer service in remembrance of Dr. King and a program focused on making blankets for people in need.
In addition to these opportunities to be of service and reflect, the College manages several other initiatives designed to help community members explore what it means to be agents of justice and peace. These include the H.O.P.E. Service Immersion Program, the L.I.G.H.T. Community Engagement Program, the Moreau Student Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, Best Buddies, various student affinity groups, and more. To discover ways to serve others, please reach out to Campus Ministry at campusministry@stonehill.edu, Student Engagement at studentengagement@stonehill.edu, or Intercultural Affairs at diversity@stonehill.edu.
Sincerely,
Rev. John Denning, C.S.C.
President
