In the role of Campus Minister for Community Engagement, Brittany Lorgeree creates opportunities for students to grow intentionally. She accomplishes this by empowering Skyhawks to pursue meaningful service experiences that align with Stonehill’s mission of creating a more just and compassionate world.

“I love helping students realize their vocation and discover a desire to do good in the world,” she said. “And to do that at an institution I love alongside colleagues I care for is a blessing.”

As Lorgeree works to enhance students’ ability to participate in the self-discovery process, here are 10 things to know about her.

Although she didn't attend Stonehill as a student, Lorgeree was already familiar with the school when she first began working in Campus Ministry, as both of her parents are alumni.

1. She is part of a Stonehill legacy. Lorgeree started working at the College in 2019, but her ties to the institution run deep. “My parents, Mark [’88] and Sandy [’88] Churchill, both went to school here,” she said. “They used to bring me to campus, and we’d have picnics by the pond when I was a kid. I also attended College Gate and College Academy, the camps that run here in the summer. I remember taking marine biology and journalism classes here as a camper.”

2. She is living her dream. Before being elevated to a full-time position at Stonehill, Lorgeree was first employed as a graduate intern. At the time, she was working towards a Master of Education degree in Student Affairs Counseling from Bridgewater State University. “I talked about my faith a lot in my classes there, so one of my advisors suggested I go into Campus Ministry,” she said. “I’m glad my current role became available as I was starting my career. It’s my dream job.”

3. She is a good community partner. Over the past few years, Lorgeree has successfully stewarded collaborations between the College and local service organizations, including My Brother’s Keeper, Father Bill’s & MainSpring, House of Possibilities, and Habitat for Humanity, among others. “In nurturing these ties, I want to ensure that our campus community isn’t just inserting ourselves without meeting the needs of these organizations,” she said. “So, a lot of my job is communicating with our partners, learning how we can best serve them, and responding accordingly.”

4. She values camaraderie. Lorgeree recognizes that students interested in community-based projects often don’t know where to start. She advises that they remain open to self-reflection. “Think about what sort of work tugs at your heart,” she said. “After you consider that, try making connections with others who might be interested as well. Going into service together makes it more meaningful.”

5. She lives on campus. In addition to her work as Campus Minister for Community Engagement, Lorgeree is a pastoral resident for Villa Theresa Hall, which houses first-years and sophomores. “I support the Residence Life team by getting involved with programming and helping build community with the students,” she said. “There are many components to the job. I’ve helped lead meditations. I’ve done workshops. I am there for the residents however I can be.”

Just as her parents used to bring her to campus for picnics when she was a child, Lorgeree enjoys bringing her son Miles to different Stonehill spots, including the Chapel of Mary.

6. She offers something unique. Though he isn’t a Stonehill employee, Lorgeree’s husband Tim plays a supporting role on the College’s pastoral resident team. “We are the only lay people at Stonehill in this capacity,” she said. “As a married couple, I think we can support our students differently than the priests, brothers and deacons do. They can help students discern a religious vocation, while my husband and I can minister those who might be thinking about getting married or starting a family in the future.”

7. She’s raising a social Skyhawk. Besides being a place where Lorgeree and her husband serve the student body, Villa Theresa is also the first home that their son Miles has ever known. “Raising a baby here has been wonderful because the students love having him around,” she said. “He’s only a year old, but he’s very social. He likes visiting the Chapel of Mary, wandering through the MacPháidín Library, and going to the Commons for breakfast.”

8. Her roommate is the cat’s meow. Lorgeree’s family unit wouldn’t be complete without their cat, a fire-colored feline named Cinder. “We adopted him a few years ago,” the staff member said. “We keep him inside our living space, but the students like to come say hello to him. One student even gifted me a stuffed toy that looks just like Cinder.”

9. She is a songsmith. In her free time, Lorgeree writes music. “I’ve always enjoyed coming up with melodies, but it was only a few years ago that I sat down and seriously started putting lyrics down on paper,” she said. “I have a few friends who have helped me compose musical arrangements and record my songs. I enjoy sharing my work on Spotify.” Listeners can enjoy Lorgeree’s music here.

10. She has found her life’s calling. Reflecting on her experiences as a Stonehill community member, Lorgeree believes it is her “mission to help other people live out theirs.” She notes that seeing other people’s goals and dreams come to fruition brings her great joy. “That’s why higher education is such a beautiful field to be in,” she said. “There are so many opportunities to uplift other people.”
