  • Coronavirus or COVID-19 – How Concerned Should We Be? We have all heard a great deal of information about Covid-19, but all the information we are hearing may be very confusing and changing daily. Many of you are disappointed missing time abroad, travel LC’s or spring break plans, but other than ruining your plans, is there any reason to be concerned about Coronavirus?  The answer is, yes you should be a little concerned. You should inform yourself with accurate information to know the right things to do to protect yourself. It is also important to avoid doing the things that are at best useless and at worst harmful to you.
  • Meet the MacPhaidin Library Staff – Kyle Sousa: Kyle Sousa is a circulation assistant at the library and shares what he likes about working at the library.
  • Student H.O.P.E. Trip Reflection: Every year some Stonehill students spend their spring breaks going on H.O.P.E. trips. These experiences seek to engage students in cross-cultural immersion experiences. Each year there are groups going to a variety of different places and working on different issues. This year one of our student Library employees, Alexis Medeiros is going to Wheeling, West Virginia and she shares her perspective.

 

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

  • Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day: March is Irish American Heritage Month, but have you ever wondered how many of our St. Patrick’s Day traditions are “really” Irish? What we now think of as a celebratory day of parades, green rivers, and green beer is a relatively new occurrence that began in the mid-nineteenth century. As many Catholic families left Ireland for the United States, they were forced to define themselves and their culture within their new country.

  • Off-Campus access: Stay on top of your work over spring break and take advantage of off-campus access. Many, but not all, of the library’s databases are available from off campus with your myHill username and password.  
  • Leisure reading: Need a good book to read outside now that spring is in the air?  The library has a leisure reading collection adjacent to Ace’s Place with popular titles and books donated from community members.  
  • Text Line: Even though you’re on spring break, you can still text a librarian at 508-709-0223 for help with your research.
  • Women’s History Month Books: Scroll to the bottom of the library website to view a curated selection of books on Women’s History Month.
