Independent Agencies and Government Corporations

There are more than 50 independent agencies and government corporations that are part of the Executive Branch. They are relatively independent of the President's direction and many have regulatory power. Some well-known independent agencies are the Central Intelligence Agency, Federal Reserve System, and United States Postal Service. Two well-known government corporations are the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Quasi-Official Agencies

Quasi-Official agencies are not Executive agencies under the definition of 5 U.S.C.105 but are required by statute to publish certain information on their programs and activities in the Federal Register.
