The path to Cushing-Martin is one where many get excited about their visual arts classes or the occasional communications course, but for me, it is the path to IDEAS. Every Friday I have met here to build my very own course called Advocacy In Action. Each cohort learns the necessary skills to facilitate a college course and also builds community with other student facilitators!

One of the most meaningful paths I’ve taken at Stonehill has been through leadership and mentorship. Whether it’s guiding first-year students as an Orientation Leader and FYE Facilitator, mentoring through the Opportunity for Kindness program, or even curating experiences for others through the Disney Leadership Experience, I’ve found so much purpose in helping others find their place here. Walking the path to the Office of Student Engagement restores the energy and feeling of community that comes with building a community, and walking up Donahue Hill restores the memories of those first few days of Orientation, when I saw students start to form friendships and start their college journey. But I have not walked this path alone. I have been fortunate to be around people who have challenged, supported, and encouraged me—be it mentors like my advisor Professor Robin Goldberg or Steve Pagios, friends who push me to be my best, or the students that I have interacted with who opened me up to new perspectives. Every experience, from being in L.I.G.H.T. to holding jobs on campus, has shaped the way that I serve and lead. These are the moments that remind me why I do this work and energize me to continue making a difference, here at Stonehill and elsewhere.

I lived in the SEM my freshman year and met some of my very best friends, whom I have stayed in touch with since living there in 1996-1997! For anyone who has lived in the SEM, you know that the path to and from campus is a special place and offers a feeling of "coming home" after a long day. New buildings have been added to campus over the years, the athletic fields and SpoCo have changed, and the sinks have been removed from the rooms in the SEM, but the path remains the same. After long days in class and cold winter walks on campus, the path to the SEM greets you like an old friend when you return to your friends and roommates in the amazing community that the SEM cultivates for anyone lucky enough to live there!
