Chip Salyards brought people together.

He connected people from all walks of life. He created relationships that will last a lifetime, and more important than creating them – he invested in them.

Friendship, to Chip, had no boundaries.

About Chip

Chip Salyards '88
Chip Salyards, Class of 1988

Chip Salyards was a friend, a leader, a coach, and a confidant. He was a motivator, a communicator, and a connector. He was an athlete and a competitor. He was a world-class storyteller and an unbelievable teacher, husband, and father. He believed in the goodness of people, paying it forward, and living life to the fullest.

As a member of the Stonehill College Class of 1988, Chip took great pride in his beloved alma mater. It amazed his wife Wende how so many small world stories were discovered during their global travels, and would somehow always come back to Stonehill. Chip referred to Stonehill as the “largest small school in Massachusetts”, and he never missed an opportunity to share his Stonehill experience with others.

Chip's Stonehill Experience

Football Days

While attending Stonehill, Chip played football all four years from 1984-1988 where he was a senior captain and an All-League Defensive End. At the time of his playing days, the Chieftains were a club team in the Northeast 10 Conference, but following his graduation, the College made the move to make football a varsity sport. The team during his senior captain season in 1988 was instrumental in moving Stonehill from club to varsity status and into Division III.

After graduation, he remained on the sidelines, but in a different role – as an assistant football coach in 1989 under Head Coach Cliff Sherman. That year the Chieftains competed in their first varsity season as a Division III team and won the ECFC Championship.

Professional Career

After graduating in 1988, Chip started his first job at the W.B. Mason Company and quickly learned what hard work and perseverance could lead to. In 1999 he earned his Executive MBA at Suffolk University. Chip’s inspirational leadership, collaborative spirit, unwavering positivity, and jovial storytelling left an indelible mark on many. The culmination of Chip’s career in sales led to his most recent appointment as Chief Revenue Officer at Catchpoint Systems.

Remembering Chip

Unfortunately, Chip’s life was tragically cut short at the young age of 56 after a short battle with an aggressive form of cancer. As a tribute to Chip’s commitment and generosity to Stonehill College, his friends and family are planning to build a social gathering place for people to come together before, during, and after sporting events on campus to share stories and create lasting memories.

We hope you can join us in supporting the funding for the Chip Salyards '88 Memorial Pavilion. With your support, Chip’s zest for life and infectious energy will live on through years of friendship, laughter, and storytelling at Stonehill College – a special place that was always close to his heart.
