Michael Horne Award for Distinguished Faculty Scholarship
As part of Stonehill’s 50th Anniversary Celebration in 1998, the College inaugurated a Distinguished Faculty Scholar award. This award is to be given to a faculty member whose scholarly achievement has brought distinction to the College. In 2022, the College renamed the award for one of our previous recipients and most distinguished scholars, Professor Mike Horne of our Physics Department.
The Distinguished Faculty Scholar Committee (composed of the School and Divisional Deans, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, the two most recent recipients of the Distinguished Scholarship Award, and the Vice President for Academic Affairs) selects a faculty member with an exceptional record of scholarly achievement.
Honorees must be Full Professors who have been at Stonehill for a minimum of ten years. The Committee will use the following criteria:
- Proven professional and scholarly engagement of an exceptional nature with strong evidence of ongoing research, scholarly and/or creative work or other professional activities including scholarship of teaching and learning and civic engagement;
- Public visibility and recognition as a result of their scholarship;
- National acclaim that significantly advances the reputation and prominence of the professor and Stonehill;
- Extensive record of publications and/or creative works;
- Involvement in professional organizations; collaborative research and other professional work; presentations at meetings and conferences, editorial work, workshop organization, etc.
