Biography

Lori Ann Dunn is a Professor of Practice in the Graduate Teacher Education program at Stonehill College. She started teaching in 1997 as a special educator in a self-contained classroom.

Throughout her career as a reading specialist and instructional literacy coach, Dunn developed curricula and analyzed school data sets to inform multi-tiered systems of support. As an administrator, she created and led professional learning communities to support co-teaching. She also developed and led many professional development workshops for individual schools and districts. She organized pilot studies of new literacy programs and collaborated with district administrators to ensure vertical alignment of district curricular goals. She also served on New England Association of Schools and Colleges committees and formed student assistance teams within the schools to support students.

In her doctoral studies, she researched special education and literacy. Dunn published a pilot study using an original intervention designed to increase visualization and ultimately reading comprehension for high school students with disabilities. Her dissertation research used the same intervention for middle school students with positive outcomes. For this study, she received the John Schmitt Award from the New England Educational Research Organization.
