Douglas J. Smith
Vice President for Advancement
Doug Smith was appointed Vice President for Advancement in 2019. He oversees a department comprised of more than two dozen professionals and support staff. He directs Stonehill’s Development, Alumni and Advancement Communications programs.
For over two decades, Smith has served the College in various fundraising roles, including Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, Director of Development and Associate Vice President for Advancement. He is currently leading “To Be Bold – The Campaign for Stonehill,” with a goal of $75 million for facilities, scholarships and academic programs. He was part of the team that helped the College raise $59.5 million for the “Attaining the Summit” comprehensive fundraising campaign, exceeding the targeted goal of $55 million. He also led “Securing the Vision,” Stonehill’s first capital campaign, which successfully raised over $23 million.
Smith began his career in the non-profit sector in 1986 as a development officer with the Boy Scouts of America in the Boston area and New York City. He holds the designation of CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive). He is active in his community, serving as Chair of the Scituate Historical Commission. He is a former board member of the South Shore Art Center, The Children’s Museum in Easton and Plymouth Bay Girl Scout Council.
As an undergraduate, Smith attended Bridgewater State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1985. He also holds a certificate in non-profit Leadership and management from the University of Notre Dame.
