Biography

Craig Tichelkamp joined the Department of Religious Studies and Theology at Stonehill College in 2016. His recent book is titled The Mystified Letter: How Medieval Theology Can Reenchant the Practice of Reading (Fortress Press, December 2023).

His scholarly work has also appeared in peer-reviewed publications like the journal Medieval Mystical Theology and the Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception. He recently completed a Latin translation (with James Arinello) of the biblical commentaries of the thirteenth-century Victorine Thomas Gallus for the volume Spiritual Formation and Mystical Symbolism: A Selection of Works of Hugh and Richard of St. Victor, and of Thomas Gallus for the series Victorine Texts in Translation (Brepols, 2022). 

Tichelkamp teaches broadly in the theologies, histories, and cultures of global Christianity in the medieval and modern worlds. He also teaches at Harvard Divinity School and Tufts University.

His research interests include medieval mystical theology and scriptural interpretation.
