Chet Raymo Literary Series: Eileen Myles
The Chet Raymo Literary Series was established in 2001. This annual event brings significant writers of poetry, fiction or non-fiction to Stonehill to share their work and to speak about the art of writing.
Eileen Myles will serve as this year's speaker. They are a Lambda Literary Award-winning poet, novelist, and art journalist whose mutating project of mostly first-person writing has become a touchstone for the identity-fluid internet age. Pathetic Literature, which they edited, will be released in November 2022. Their fiction includes Chelsea Girls (1994), Cool for You (2000), Inferno: A Poet’s Novel (2010), and Afterglow (2017). Their writing on art was gathered in the volume The Importance of Being Iceland: Travel Essays in Art (2009). Their books of poetry include Evolution (2018) and I Must Be Living Twice: New and Selected Poems 1975-2014 (2015). They also wrote and directed The Trip, a super 8 puppets road film which is available to watch on YouTube. Myles has received many grants & awards throughout their career, including a Guggenheim & Warhol/Creative Capital Art Writers Grant.
This event is sponsored by the Department of English.
