Join Assistant Director of Archives Jonathan Green ’10 for A Shared Light and Hope: Illuminating Stonehill's Indigenous History.
Southeastern Massachusetts’s indigenous history is unique and intriguing, and Stonehill College occupies a place in that storied past. An exploration of visual and textual materials from the Stonehill College Archives along with information uncovered at other local archives and historical sites, sets the stage for a brief discussion of southeastern Massachusetts’s pre- and post-contact indigenous history.
Toeing the line between fact and folklore, this discussion will tour mainstream historical hotspots like Plymouth and the Hockomock Swamp, as well as some more obscure sites like the Titicut Plantation and Stonehill's King Philip’s Cave. To some this may be a refreshing jaunt through local indigenous history, while others may find themselves falling down this rabbit hole for the first time.
