Pope Francis's 2015 encyclical letter on environmental degradation and climate change titled Laudato Sí has captured the attention of many around the world.

In this presentation, Franciscan theologian and philosopher Fr. Daniel P. Horan will place the encyclical in context of Church teaching, discuss key themes of the text, highlight how we can each embrace the Holy Father’s call for greater “ecological conversion,” and suggest ways this teaching can still be developed moving forward.

About the speaker: Daniel P. Horan, OFM, PhD is Professor of Philosophy, Religious Studies and Theology and Director of the Center for Spirituality at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. He previously held the Dun Scotus Chair of Spirituality at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. A columnist for the National Catholic Reporter, he is the author of more than a dozen books, including Catholicity and Emerging Personhood: A Contemporary Theological Anthropology, which received the 2020 First Place Award for Theology Book from the Association of Catholic Publishers, and his two latest are titled A White Catholic’s Guide to Racism and Privilege and The Way of the Franciscans: A Prayer Journey Through Lent. Fr. Daniel regularly lectures around the United States and abroad; serves on a number of university, academic, and publication editorial boards, including the St. Bonaventure University Board of Trustees and the Franciscan School of Theology Board of Regents. He is co-host of The Francis Effect Podcast.
