About Education

Stonehill College prepares teachers by combining a solid foundation in the liberal arts and sciences with a number of practical field-based experiences.

Also known as “practicums,” these field-based experiences allow Stonehill teachers-in-training to apply theory, technology and methodology learned in the classroom while engaged with students in all of their real-life complexity.

The Department of Education offers majors in Education Studies for licensure with concentrations in:

Early Childhood Education
Elementary Education

A Secondary Education minor is also offered for licensure at the 8-12 and 5-12 levels.

Early Childhood and Elementary Education students must select a second major in the liberal arts and sciences in addition to their Education Studies major. This coursework, together with the required Cornerstone Program, ensures that Stonehill students are ready for the rigors of teaching 21st century students.

“One of the greatest strengths of the Early Childhood Education program lies in the fact that every course has a field component. This provides our students with multiple opportunities to work with real students and real teachers in a variety of settings, while also challenging students to translate the developmental and educational theory learned through coursework into actual classroom practice.”
