Academic Opportunities

Career Information, Exploration & Assistance

Many students come to campus not yet having decided upon a major much less a specific career strategy. Others desire an internship to build practical skills and obtain direct career experience prior to graduation.  Other students have selected a desired first job and want help locating the most appropriate employer. Many students choose to attend a professional or graduate program after completing their undergraduate degree, and would like help identifying an appropriate institution or sources of funding in order to attend.  The friendly and helpful professionals in Career Services assist students with academic and career decisions from their first day on campus until retirement!

The Honors Program

Most Honors Scholars are admitted directly into the program when they are accepted for admission, but students may also apply during the first year of study. Housed in the Rev. Robert J. Kruse, C.S.C. Center for Academic and Professional Excellence, the Director is available to meet with interested students and their families. Please call 508-565-1355 for an appointment.

International Programs

Experiencing life in another culture, mastering a foreign language, and learning more about the world (and yourself) are all reasons to either study abroad or take an international internship (or do both!) The College sends students to carefully-screened programs at over 130 universities in 36 countries. Internships are available in Brussels, Dublin, London, Paris, and Zaragoza.

Internships

The Internship Coordinator in the Career Services Office assists students with locating an appropriate position, completing the application and enrollment processes, and successfully fulfilling the program requirements. Because an internship allows students to apply learning from their major programs in the workplace, they are typically taken in the senior year (although some are available in the Junior year). Most internships are with Boston-area employers and are taken along with classes on the Stonehill campus, but the College also has full-time residential programs in New York City and Washington, D.C. International internships in are provided through International Programs.

The Kruse Center

Stonehill College created the Rev. Robert J. Kruse, C.S.C., Center for Academic and Professional Excellence to be a resource for students as they explore their talents and interests, and then build plans for their educational and career choices. First-year students come to the Kruse Center to obtain information needed to create a detailed plan for their four years at the College: choice of major and possibly minor; input on choice of language competency and appropriate options for a semester abroad; timing of internships and leadership development experiences; possible enrollment in the Honors Program; and exploration of graduate programs and/or opportunities for postgraduate employment. They return to the Center frequently as they transform their plan into reality interacting with professionals in Career Services, the Honors Program, and International Programs.

SURE--Stonehill Undergraduate Research Experience

This summer program allows students to work one-on-one with a member of the faculty on a research project that will lead to a joint publication. Both an eight-week and ten-week session are available. Successful student applicants receive a stipend and live on campus during the program.
