The Cornerstone Program

At Stonehill College, learning is built on the foundation of The Cornerstone Program, which emphasizes intellectual engagement, effective communication, leadership and collaboration, social responsibility and personal growth and discovery.

In addition to providing this foundation, the Cornerstone Program prepares students for the twenty-first century by fostering knowledge of other cultures, integrative thinking, and ethical responsibility as the hallmarks of global citizenship.

First Year Core: Encounters

Four foundational courses in the first year explore the common ground of literature, history, philosophy, and religious studies.

Sophomore Year: Communities

Innovative sophomore Learning Communities introduce students to interdisciplinary inquiry and problem-based investigation.

Junior Year: Connections

In the third year, all students complete a Moral Inquiry course, which introduces them to ethical thought and action. Several other requirements of this nature are distributed across a student's four years.

Senior Year: Capstone

A Capstone senior experience connects disciplinary mastery in the student's major to the knowledge and skills of The Cornerstone Program.
