Art History

Art History at Stonehill College blends in-depth study of artistic periods and individual artists' styles with experiential learning.
Travel to Italy to study Renaissance art or ancient pagan and Christian cultures. In Paris and Provence, explore the world of French art and literature of the 19th Century. Work with teenagers from Brockton, MA to create public art for their communities. Curate an exhibition in the Cushing-Martin Gallery in our capstone course, "Exhibitions and Collections: an Inside Look." Learn "on the job" in a gallery or museum internship.
Art History at Stonehill is more than sitting in a darkened classroom viewing slides. It is experiencing art and living art history.
At Stonehill deepen your understanding of art as an expression of various cultures, ideologies, and aesthetics and as a means for personal expression. Investigate connections between art and other disciplines such as history, psychology, gender studies and religious studies. Imagine the possibilities of pursuing advanced study as a scholar, art therapist, artist administrator, curator or museum educator.
